MCP is quietly becoming the platform
With Model Context Protocol (MCP) maturing into a solid platform, we're entering a new phase for AI.
The signal isn't the spec itself — it's the adoption pattern. Multiple companies are actively building both clients and servers on top of MCP at the same time. That two-sided investment is how real ecosystems start: nobody builds a server without expecting clients, and nobody ships a client without servers worth connecting to.
Why this matters for agents
Agents — autonomous, task-oriented systems capable of reasoning and acting on our behalf — have been limited less by model quality than by access: to tools, to data, to the systems where work actually happens. A common protocol turns every integration from a bespoke project into a commodity. That's the foundation agents needed, and it will drastically change how we interact with technology.
The platform bets that win are rarely the loudest ones. They're the ones where the boring plumbing gets standardized — and everything interesting gets built on top.
